Power Outage at Clayton Campus

A restricted supply of electricity is available at Clayton campus on Tuesday, 5th December, however, it is anticipated that a full supply will be available from the morning of Wednesday 6 December.

For all buildings other than those listed above, restricted supply will mean that most electrical equipment and appliances will operate normally, including:

  • Computers, printers etc;
  • Lighting;
  • Automatic doors;
  • Lifts;
  • Escalators;
  • Alarms;
  • Ventilation (but not air conditioning).

However, central (plant) air-conditioning and industrial equipment (such as the wind tunnel in the Faculty of Engineering) will not operate.

All staff are requested to:

  • not use local or isolated air conditioning;
  • turn off all unnecessary lighting and equipment.

Working Conditions

Having regard to the restricted air conditioning and the likely hot weather, supervisors are requested to exercise discretion and allow (where possible) staff to work from home or, if it can be arranged, from those buildings where air conditioning is available.

If, having regard to the university Occupational Health and Safety policy on 'Thermal Comfort and Heat' (www.adm.monash.edu.au/occupational health and safety /documents/information-sheets/thermal-comfort.html ), workplaces become uncomfortable, supervisors are authorised to send Clayton campus staff home with no loss of pay or entitlements.
