WHAM Wellbeing Happens at Monash - Wellbeing InitiativesWHAM (Wellbeing Happens at Monash) is a new and exciting initiative to promote health and general wellbeing both at Monash and at home. The program, which has the full support of the Vice-Chancellor, kicked off on the 22nd September 2005 with a fun and exciting breakfast at the Clayton Campus and various other activities at other Monash sites. Monash 10,000 Steps ChallengeThe first initiative of the WHAM Program was the Monash 10,000 Steps Challenge which involved 84 teams of 10 people, led by a team captain. Teams were made up of Monash staff, and their family or friends and also included students. Teams walked approximately 10,000 steps per day over 38 days to cover a virtual road trip from Sunny Port Douglas to Beautiful Hobart from the 25th September, finishing on the 1st November. Team progress was monitored by team captains who were also responsible for encouraging their team members to reach their daily goals. And to boost enthusiasm, there were prizes for teams and individual leaders. The Challenge was an overwhelming success with more than 800 participants throughout Monash. Further activities of the WHAM program are planned throughout 2005/2006 and will be available at this site. Other activities can also be viewed at the Wellbeing Calendar. |
