Monash IBM Future Leaders Scholarship

The Monash IBM Future Leaders Program is designed to equip selected students with the general, technical, organisational and leadership skills needed to:

  • become the next generation of business leaders
  • substantially reduce the time taken for new graduates to become fully effective employees.

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:

  • an Australian citizen, holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa, and
  • a continuing student who has completed the first year of the Bachelor of Business or Bachelor of Commerce, and
  • enrolled or intending to enrol full-time in the second year of the Bachelor of Business* at the Monash Caulfield campus.

* Students enrolled in a double degree may be eligible but are required to transfer to the Bachelor of Business single degree if they are offered the scholarship.

Selection criteria

The scholarship will be awarded to eligible students based on a combination of:

  • academic performance; students must have achieved a minimum weighted average mark of 65 per cent to be eligible
  • the applicant’s ability to contribute to IBM as a potential future leader (as defined by the company)
  • performance at interviews with senior representative(s) of IBM and Monash University

Value and number available

$18,000 per annum for a maximum of two years only. The number available is variable depending on funding.

Retention

Recipients must maintain full-time enrolment in the Bachelor of Business and a minimum of a credit overall average mark (60 per cent). In addition, students must also:

  • complete a double major in their degree – the first selected from majors offered by the Faculty of Business and Economics and the second selected from majors offered by the Faculty of Information Technology. Both majors must be completed at the Monash Caulfield campus
  • undertake a specialised program of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities offered by the faculties of Business and Economics and Information Technology
  • complete a 22 week, four-unit (24 credit-point) IBL project jointly supervised by Monash academic staff and representatives of the IBM business group in which the IBL project is undertaken
  • produce a comprehensive written report and verbal presentation of their IBL project.

Deferability

This scholarship is not normally deferrable. Selected students are expected to complete their degree within the scholarship period.
