Vice Chancellors Equity and Diversity Awards

VC Equity and Diversity Awards 2006

The Vice Chancellor, in conjunction with the Equity and Diversity Centre, seeks to acknowledge and recognise those who have made a significant contribution to the enhancement of equity and diversity principles linked to the Monash Excellence and Diversity Strategic Framework 2004-2008. The awards are open to individual staff members, departments, committees and/or other identifiable groups at Monash University.

These awards are presented annually to encourage and reward individual excellence and to promote and support best practice initiatives and projects. Entries may address any area of staff/student equity listed below and applications are open to all staff and enrolled students at Monash.

There are two categories for the awards - Individual Excellence and Group Initiative/Project, both must demonstrate inclusive practices in support of:

Applications may involve one or more of the above areas.

All current staff are eligible to be nominated. However, awards will not be granted to staff employed primarily to implement equity programs and policies. An individual or group may be nominated for more than one award.

Selection Criteria for Applications

The selection committee will decide recipients for the award by judging applications on the following criteria:

  • Impact - What impact has the individual or group initiative/project made? What are the signs of its impact?
  • Transferability and Sustainability - How has there been a transferral of knowledge? How can the knowledge be reproduced/transferred to other areas?
  • Innovation and Creativity - Examples of how issues have been handled in an innovative/creative manner?
  • Outcomes - What have been the results?

Selection Process

The Vice-Chancellor or senior nominee and seven committee members will consider the applications submitted prior to the closing date. Short-listed recipients may be asked to meet with the selection committee to discuss their application in more detail.

  • Student and Community Services Divisional nominee
  • Chair, Inclusive Practices: Disability Committee or nominee
  • Chair, Inclusive Practices: Equity Committee or nominee
  • Chair, Workplace Equity Committee or nominee
  • Monash Student Association Representative
  • Equity and Diversity Centre Representative

Awards and Presentations

There will be awards presented to a total value of $10,000 which may be used for the purposes of attendance at training, conferences or to contribute to the further enhancement of the project.

There will also be certificates of commendation presented.

Method of Application

Individuals can nominate an individual, department, committee or other identifiable group.

Written application of no more than 4 - A4 pages in 12 point Arial font addressing each of the following:

  1. Nominee details - individual or group - please include name, position and School/Faculty/Department/Division, phone and email. For a group nomination please provide the contact details of the project coordinator.
  2. Details of individual who is nominating.
  3. Brief description of the project and/or person of no more than 4 - A4 pages. This will emphasize in principle support of any or several of the categories itemized on page 1 and address the selection criteria on page 2.
