Target group:Academic and general staff who are interested in learning how to use SPSS
Group size:Maximum 12 - Minimum numbers apply
Level 2 program:
  • Completion of SPSS module 1, or some experience using SPSS for Windows
  • Understanding of basic statistical techniques, (eg. descriptive statistics, t-tests, analysis of variance, correlation)

Overview

To provide participants with the skills necessary to use SPSS for statistical analysis.

Intended Outcomes

Participants to gain knowledge on more advance uses of SPSS through hands-on experience.

Course Content

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • use SPSS to obtain descriptive statistics
  • manipulate the data to form new variables
  • use additional SPSS options to sort the data file and to split the file or select specific cases for analyses
  • choose appropriate statistical techniques to address specific research questions
  • perform a variety of statistical procedures and interpret the output (including preliminary assumption testing where appropriate)
  • Depending on the needs of participants, these statistical techniques will include :
  • correlation,
  • paired samples t-test, independent groups t-test,
  • one-way between groups analysis of variance,
  • one-way repeated measures analysis of variance,
  • two-way analysis of variance
  • chi-square
