Overview

This three hour session is designed to provide Monash staff members with an overview of the University's obligations with respect to the Information Privacy Act 2000 (VIC) and the Health Records Act 2001 (VIC), which are known as the "Privacy Laws".  The session will provide participants with practical information and experience of:

  • Why do you need to know about privacy?
  • What is "information privacy"?
  • An overview of the Information Privacy Act 2000, particularly the 10 Information Privacy Principles
  • An overview of the privacy laws and policies in practice at Monash University
  • The process through which a student or staff member can make a complaint about a breach of privacy
  • Frequently asked questions of the University Privacy Officer

Intended Outcomes

It is intended that participants will gain practical experience and knowledge of the University's obligations in respect to the Information Privacy Act 2000.

  • Definitions and information about Privacy Laws and policies in practice at the University.
  • Practical strategies dealing with privacy in your workplace
  • Activities and practical case studies
