Changes to Unit Discipline Groups protocol

The protocol for changes to unit discipline groups as approved by Education Policy Committee (4/2010) is as follows:

    a) Unit discipline groups should not be changed once reported for an academic year because of DEEWR reporting and publishing requirements and the University funding agreement, ie. if a unit discipline group has already been reported for that academic year, it can only be changed for the next academic year.

    b) Where sound reasons for change to a unit discipline group exist, the appropriate time to make a change is by end June prior to the commencement of the offered year to allow negotiation of the Funding Agreement based on accurate data and to ensure the correct Student Contribution band is published in accordance with DEEWR publishing requirements.

    c) It is imperative that staff contact the Enrolments unit (Student Administration) for advice before making any change to a unit discipline group.

    d) Where the advice is that a change to a unit discipline group can occur, a new unit version should be established in Callista.

    e) If a change to a discipline group leads to significant change to a Student Contribution band or funding cluster, it is expected that there will be demonstration of significant academic change to the unit as approved by the relevant faculty board, and that the most likely outcome will be creation of a new unit.
