Appointment procedure - Staff acting in senior management positions

Staff who have been appointed by Council, the vice-chancellor or delegate to an acting appointment in the post of dean, head of school/department, executive/divisional director, university librarian, or equivalent, for continuous periods exceeding four weeks' duration may be eligible to receive a higher duties/special allowance for the period. The allowance payable will be determined by the Divisional Director, Human Resources, in consultation with the vice-chancellor, deputy vice-chancellor, dean, executive/divisional director or delegate, however the principles outlined in higher duties allowance may be followed in determining the amount of the allowance payable.

Acting heads of schools/departments may be eligible to receive the head of school/department allowance normally payable to the head. Normally, a head who takes a period of paid leave during their appointment as head, will continue to receive any head's allowance payable, during the period of absence. However, it is at the dean's discretion to determine whether the allowance is paid over the period of leave.
